Le Puy Notre Dame is one of the prettiest villages in this part of the Loire and has just been awarded the accolade of "Petit Cité de Caractère" in recognition of its unique character. It is the largest wine making commune in the Saumur vineyards with over 60 winemakers working within the village and its associated hamlets. Wine has been produced here for 100's of years, much of the reason for this being the massive collegiate church and its associated religious community . Sitting on its limestone outcrop its slopes are covered with over 1500 hectares of vines making the full range os wine; from dry whites to dessert wine, rosés to reds and two types of sparkling wine, including the famous Saumur Brut. The latter wine, itself being made in white, rosé and even red.

The Loire Valley is one of France's major wine producing areas and a tour of this region will show the astounding diversity of wine produced here. Our tours are very relaxed and we are quite happy to design each tour to suit your requirements. Your bi-linqual wine tour host has had much experience in the wine business, has studied wine up to the Wine and Spirit Educational Trust Diploma level and his knowledge of local wine is such that he is invited to judge at the annual Concours de Vins, a major wine competition restricted to wine professionals. During our tours we hope, by calling on both our experience and the personal relationships we have built up with wine makers over 10 years to show you a unique insight into the wines of the Loire Valley. What our gites have to offer

Both our gites are totally renovated and fully equipped.
The gites are situated in the pretty wine village of Le Puy-Notre-Dame and within easy walking distance of the artisan bakery, bar, restaurant, hairdresser, supermarket, pharmacie, and post office, whilst also being next to extensive vineyards

We purchased Le Clos des Guyons in 2004 and ever since we have tried to make our vacation rentals into what we searched for when we spent many years holidaying in France

*Our gites are located an easy five minute drive from the pretty rose growing town of Doué la Fontaine and the very attractive small chateau town of Montreuil-Bellay. The major chateau town of Saumur is only a 15 minute drive away.
*We are a short distance from France's latest major attraction "Le Terra Botanica" styled the largest horticultural display area in Europe it is along the lines of the UK's Eden Centre.
*Our gites are perfectly located to use as a base to explore the Chateaux and other delights of the Loire Valley, located as they are between Angers and Tours.
*Both gites at "Le Clos des Guyons" have totally secure parking so that you can enjoy your stay in the Loire Valley with no fears about your vehicle security.
*As we live on site all the year round we are always there to answer any queries, or make any reservations, in fact generally help in any way we can.

*In Spring or Autumn the Loire Valley can be a delight and we have now installed a pool heater to extend the pool season. We can normally arrange pro-rata rental based on the number of days divided into the appropriate weekly gite seven day rental.

IDEAL FOR SHORT BREAKS IN LOIRE VALLEY

Apart from the ferry operators, the growing number of low-cost flights now available means that you can easily rent a weekend gite in the Loire Valley for less money than a short-break in the UK. For example, you can be relaxing in your gite or enjoy your welcoming glass of local sparkling wine, less than two hours after leaving:- Ldn Stansted; Southampton; Manchester; Liverpool; Birmingham; Leeds- Bradford; Dublin and Shannon Airports, arriving into Tours, Poitiers, Angers or Nantes Airports.
New! London City to Angers from 29th May with BA; all are within easy driving distance of our gites at Le Clos des Guyons. There are car hire desks at all airports. This easy access is ideal for Spring and Autumn breaks. April in particular can be very warm and pleasant. As I write this, on April 4th., the forecast for the week is, apart from one day, which will be overcast with temperatures down to 14°, the other days are forecast to be sunny, highs of 21°.

Gite and Bed and Breakfast holiday accommodation with heated swimming pool in the Loire Valley in the heart of the Saumur vineyards in the Loire Valley, France. Our two gites, (one for two or three people and the other for four or six), are situated on the Route Touristique des Vignobles d'Anjou in the pretty wine producing village of le Puy Notre Dame, (now awarded its own wine appellation). When we arrived here the wine for "Le Domain des Guyons" was still being made here but actual production has now moved to a more modern Pool area chais on the otherside of the village although we still use our old chais for storage, ageing and, of course, for degustations, (tastings). Although on the edge of the huge area of the surrounding vineyards, it is only a few minutes walk to the boulangerie, café bar, restaurant, pharmacie, supermarket, post office, hairdresser, and, with three major towns within a few minute drive, it is an ideal base from which to tour the Chateaux, vineyards and other attractions of the Loire. The gites have en-suite facilities and are exceedingly well equipped to a high standard making exceptional holiday accommodation for our guests. The larger of the two gites is ideal for four people but will sleep six whilst the smaller is designed specifically just for two people although, again, the sofa-bed in the lounge will permit another guest. The gite prices includes everything from the local tourist tax, free use of bicycles and pool, welcoming aperitifs to sheets and bathroom towels. Part of Lounge in Le Sauvignon gite We are well placed for wine based holidays, (Either do your own thing, or we can arrange a private wine tour or wine course on Loire Valley Wines), exploring the culture, history and chateaux for which the Loire is famous or for simply relaxing in the depths of rural France.

Bed and Breakfast:

When we renovated the property we purposely designed all the rooms in the two gites with en-suite facilities so that they could be Gite bedroom used as either self-catering weekly rentals or for Bed and Breakfast accommodation; thus each room, when used for the latter, effectively includes a private suite consisting of a lounge area with comfortable sofas, Satellite TV/DVD, library of books, board games, large chess table, all inviting a very relaxing stay!

Cycling and Walking in our part of the Loire

The area has almost been designed for walking and cycling and there are several officialy designed routes around the village and the nearby hamlets. Cycling is extremely pleasant with every vista showing delightfull views. The views from the surrounding vineyard areas are stunning and whilst being a little steeper than the local village roads they are certainly not impossible. Looking at the first, introductory video on our wine tours page will give you some idea of the local scenery.
