Attached to the courtyard, but still within the high walls, is a large garden area with ornamental fountain and tables and chairs. There is a separate quiet and secluded garden (at the side of our walnut grove) with sun bathing terrace, purely for the use of our guests (which is lit up in the evening for your soirées with patio lights), with decking and lots of sunbeds, sun umbrellas and outdoor furniture Here we have an attractive above ground (7m.x 4m) wooden-decked pool, chosen I might add not because of the cost but because we sleep better at night knowing our guests are not going to disappear into the old wine caves "Les Caves Ragot" which stretch under much of this part of Le Puy Notre Dame.
BBQ/Games For those long hot days and nights, there is a BBQ for outdoor meals and soirées. We also provide table tennis, darts and boules (in the latter case, we should perhaps point out that the winner is the one that scores the most points, NOT the one who drinks the most wine)!
Biking and Walking around Le Puy Notre Dame in the Loire Valley
Le Puy Notre Dame, like much of this part of the Loire Valley is surrounded by narrow, sunken lanes weaving in and out of the vineyards. They carry very little traffic and are ideal for cycling and walking with almost every corner revealing superb views or lovely old houses or manoirs.
We have four excellent adult bikes and one smaller bike, which you are welcome to use, so you can swop four wheels for two at any time and enjoy the scenic back lanes, passing through, sleepy hamlets and villages, perhaps calling at the multitude of wine-making properties to taste and buy some of the local wine. You can always arrange to collect any purchases later in your car. But do not forget this is Anjou not self-important Bordeaux or Burgundy and most vignerons are not only proud of their wine but are happy to pour you wine as long as you are happy to drink it. Please note that if you do not want to buy any wine it is only polite to offer to pay something, based on the amount you have consumed. Whether anything will be accepted is another point!
You will find detailed routes inside our holiday accommodation along with many tourist brochures on what to do during your stay. And, of course, we are always on hand to advise on short local rides or walks.
