When we renovated the property we purposely designed all the rooms in the
two gites, (Le Sauvignon /Le Chenin), with en-suite facilities so that they could be
used as either Gites or Bed and Breakfast accommodation. Thus each room, when used for
the latter, effectively includes a private suite consisting of a lounge
area with comfortable sofas, Satellite TV/DVD, library of books, board games,
large chess table, all
inviting a very relaxing stay! There is also a kitchen
equipped to the same high standard which we have set for our holiday gite
accommodation equipped with tables and chairs, microwave oven,
refrigerator, coffee maker, kettle, and we offer a selection of teas,
coffees and hot chocolate refreshments to be taken at your leisure during
your stay, not to mention the selection of local wines available in the wine chais.
We are situated in the attractive wine village of Le Puy Notre Dame,
village of charm,
in the midst of the Saumurois vineyards. The village has a restaurant,
two bars, bakery, post office, pharmacy, Office of Tourism and is a wonderful place for vineyard
walks, cycling, wine tasting or just chilling out. We are also very near to
Saumur, the regional centre. With its location on the side of the Loire,
its fairy tale Chateau, its famous cavalry
school, history and general ambiance, it is regarded as one of the prettiest of
France's provincial towns. The fact that the Loire
is one of the most visited
regions of France speaks for itself, but we are also ideally situated for bed and
breakfast guests wishing to break their journey down to the south of
France. This region is where much of the history of France, (and England) has
been enacted. Jeanne d' Arc held her historic meeting with the Dauphin in
nearby Chinon, whilst the last resting place of Richard the Lionheart is in
the historic Royal Abbey of Fontenvraud, just 15 minutes. away. The Loire
is, of course, famous for its Chateaux and deservedly so. A unique
collection of Medieval and Renaissance castles stretching the length of the
western and central Loire, ranging from the Medieval Fortress at Angers to
King René's love palace at Saumur. The chateau at Ussé is reputed to be the
inspiration behind, "The Sleeping Beauty", whilst the nearby town of
Brissac-Quince hosts the tallest chateau in the Loire. The scenery is gentle
and very welcoming with its rolling slopes covered in the vines which make
some of the best value wine in France.
