WINE TOUR 4 DAYS (3 Nights)
DAY 1
If required, collection from Poitiers, Tours, Angers, Nantes-Atlantique Airport (or Angers or Saumur Station) and transfer to"Le Clos des Guyons", Le Puy-Notre-Dame, Val de Loire. On your arrival enjoy a warm welcome with a special glass of wine from our our underground cellars. Depending on your time of arrival we will call at a winery to do a tasting. Where exactly depeds on where you arrive. Later, Later, on arrival at Le Clos des Guyons you will share aperitifs with us and then sit down to a gourmet dinner, accompanied by chosen AOC Saumur wines! It will be taken either in the dining room or "au terrace" or in the old wine chais.
DAY 2
Start your morning with a leisurely 'petit dejeuner' consisting of a panier of freshly baked croissants from the local 'artisan' boulangerie in the village, home made confitures, fresh fruit juice, tea, coffee or hot chocolate.
You will take a short stroll to visit a stunning Domaine which has won recognition in the French wine, "bible", La Guide Hachette des Vins de France winning a Coup de Coeur in the 2008 edition for the red Saumur 2005 made from Cabernet Franc. There you will receive a warm welcome and your tour will commence with a short talk entitled "An Introduction to the Wines of the Loire". Afterwards you will be taken into les caves, a network of underground tunnels housing vintage bottles and oak barrels aging wines for the future, and where methods of wine production will be explained to you including the method traditionelle used to produce the fresh sparking Brut wines particularly enjoyed in this region. Afterwards you will be guided around the wine chais which is home to vast cuves which house the fresh picked grape juice to the moment of bottling the distinctive blanc, rosé and rouge wines of this appellation. Then we will enter la salle de dégustation for the wine tasting where the complexity of each wine will be carefully explained to you as will the importance of the aroma and appearance, thus under expert guidance, you will understand and recognise the different aspects af the local appellations.
Lunch is taken in a local, quality Auberge serving Menu du Jour. Afterwards you are free to stroll around and enjoy a spot of sightseeing amongst one of the most attractive towns in provincial France.
If time, and stamina!! allows we will then do one of several high quality wine estates in the village.
In the evening you will be driven to Dinner is in a 'carefully' selected restaurant in Saumur offering high quality cuissine and is inclusive of aperitifs, wine and coffee..
DAY 3
Take your leisurely petite déjeuner and, afterwards, we will discuss any queries you may have on the wines tasted the previous day or any aspects that were not covered previously. There is an option to visit one of the major Sparkling wine producers in Saumur or, alternatively, you can take time to simply relax.
In the Loire Sunday Lunch is the main gastronomic event of the week, normally taking several hours and people are quite prepared to travel a long way to eat in a particular restaurant. We are no exception and will treat it with the respect it deserves!
What is left of the afternoon is free and you can either take a stroll by the Loire, perhaps through the pretty riverside, chateau town of Montsoreau, or another town or village where, (depending on the time of year), there is likely to be some fête or other going on.
Return to 'Le Clos des Guyons' where we will enjoy aperitifs and a final glass or two of wine.
DAY 4
Le Petite Dejeuner and then prepare for your return journey home.
